I have been missing from my blog the last several weeks. I have been planning and getting ready for our family vacation we just returned home from last night. We spent a wonderful week in Florida. We hit Sea World, Animal Kingdom, Busch Gardens, Aquatica, Epcot and Hollywood Studios. I plan to write up the details soon.
The sad news happened Saturday. We arrived back to our resort from Hollywood Studios around 7pm and received a call that our good friends had been in a car accident. I did not want to post about it until all the family members were notified.
This Saturday afternoon Thad was traveling to Broken Bow with his family and a car hit them straight on. Thad’s son Jake (15), and wife Trish were killed at the site. His little girl Jealyn (1-1/2 years old) was ok. She was sitting in the back in a car seat. His 10 year old daughter Marty was transported to Creighton University in Omaha and is in very critical condition. We just found out today that the Dr’s finally released her from her drug induced Coma- she is talking with her family.
Thad was transported to Lincoln for surgery and did not make it. He passed away on the operating table Sunday morning. I can’t tell you how much I will miss Thad. Thad is like a little brother to me. We grew up together. We went to the same church as toddlers, then went through first grade through my senior year together. Thad was one year behind me in school- and yes we got into trouble together in high school. We went to the same college, where he soon became best friends with my husband. We went to Japan for 2 weeks together during college. Thad and Von traveled across the United States to PRCA rodeos riding bulls for 10 years. He was with us in South Dakota when a tornado flew right over our car- turning over a Semi-trailer right ahead of us on the interstate. Thad was the one who jumped out of our car to make sure the driver was safe. When Von and Thad finally retired from bull riding we continued to meet up at little kid rodeos and the lake during the summers. We traveled to Las Vegas to the National Finals Rodeo together for years. Oh the FUN we had! Like I said he was like a little brother- I loved him and yet sometimes I just wanted to smack him (just like you do a brother). He knew how to push my buttons to tease me and make me mad- yet I never could stay mad at him.
Trish is Thad’s second wife. Their only child is Jealyn (in the picture). Jealyn is now left without a Mom or Dad. Thad has three kids with his first wife Kris. Kris and the kids (AJ, Jake and Marty) live in Elmwood, NE. AJ is his oldest daughter (16) she will be a Jr in high school. She was not traveling with them. We stopped by Creighton Medical Center in Omaha yesterday on the way home from the airport to see Marty and Kris. I feel so bad for Kris. She was never able to tell Jake goodbye. I look at my son (the same age as Jake) and my heart is so sad- I just can’t imagine how hard this must be for Kris. I also look at my daughter (the same age as Marty) and think how hard it must be to have your little girl in a hospital fighting for her life. My kids ask why this happened and I can only tell them that God had different plans for them.
A sad week for many families. The funerals will be held Thursday and Friday. So tragic.
